This course was definitely a bit of a jump from high school French, and many of my classmates and I found it challenging. It focuses a lot on grammar and oral skills, so be prepared to participate in order to stay on top of the material. There were several quizzes, group presentations, and written assignments to submit, along with the midterms and final exams. The textbook is very important since it functions as a workbook and many of the required readings/ activities are in it.
The content was very useful for grammatical aspects and practice with speaking skills. Some of my classmates and I were a bit skeptical of some of the activities, though, such as several assignments which focused on the "cons of legalizing same-*** marriage" (meant to be an example of "for" and "against" writing for controversial issues). I feel like some of these activities could have been designed a bit better, but the general learning objectives were still met.
The professor is certainly friendly but can be intimidating as well since constant class participation is required.
Be prepared to participate lots and use resources to check your written assignments before submission. The class is advanced and the material reflects that.
