I’m a decent public speaker but this class definitely could have been altered to be more impactful.

There were 2 major speeches: one informative one for mid term and one persuasive one for final. Most assignments revolved around analyzing TED talks. Discussion questions revolved around communication skills needed for public speaking.

The professor is extremely strict with grading. She will mark you down if you just meet the requirements. No flexibility for assignments if you have schedule conflicts even with prior notification. She will ding you if your speeches are longer or shorter than the time listed, even if it’s by less than 10 seconds. She really didn’t engage with the class in discussion posts either.

She is very critical of recorded speeches so you’re better off just posting a written response because the two points of extra credit will probably just break even. Live speeches for finals are mid week and there are time slots to sign up for.
