Prof: Giovanni Hortua / Fall 2021
Dec 15, 2021
The course is very interesting because it goes over all of California's history including the Independence War, Indigenous practices, and what we are currently located on in Los Angeles. The course is so useful if you are interested in the culture and history of California.
The course content was cool. I really enjoyed learning about the issues we have today and how they are seen parallel to re-occurring throughout history. The content is useful because you learn about more than one culture, Indigenous practices, and the reason why Los Angeles is the way Los Angeles is.
Professor Hortua is an AMAZING professor. He is very relax and chill with students and feels more like a friend. He does a great job involving students, but you will need to do the readings. Also, he really loves the materials he teaches on. He is very easy-going and I have had some really good conversations with him.
I would recommend really participating in the class. Not for only the grade, but Hortua really involves an individual to speak their mind. He is really passionate about the younger generations knowing they are valued for their thoughts and ideas. He gives out 2 essays (mid-term and final) and a mini project which is an art piece interpretation of your last couple weeks assignments. He is really accepting of all backgrounds, so keep that in mind. I would take the class again, but I loved the professor. I would recommend Hortua any day!
