Prof: Devin Cook / Fall 2021
Dec 11, 2021
The class is moderately difficult with a lot of memorization and advanced coding knowledge required. I think this is an essential course that every student should pay far closer attention to if they're taking CSC131 concurrently.
This course is particularly useful because in nearly every coding interview you undergo, you will encounter a question related to material covered in this class. You don't learn much outside of sorting, searching, and trees.
Cook was a professor I did not expect to be very difficult compared to others, but dear god was I wrong. You take 1 midterm and 1 final exam which are both multiple choice. Every multiple choice question has exactly 10 different choices. You are given only 3 homework assignments (20% of grade) that you may code with any language you're comfortable with. Only problem is that none of these assignments will be graded until a few days before the final exam so you are absolutely clueless as to how you're doing in the class until it's already over. He probably does this to dodge the course evaluations from students which were due on December 9th; he began releasing grades at 12:00AM on December 10th. His slideshows also feel a bit...off? He presents them as if he doesn't already know what's wri...read more
There's not a ton that you can prepare for since most of the material is about what you'd expect. Just algorithms and trees all day long.
