My professor made an otherwise boring class pretty fun.

Took the Spoken Word Poetry section because I was late to sign up and it was one of the only ones left. Overall, the "common hour" portion of the course was very helpful, but the actual spoken word section was only interesting some of the time -- although Professor Howell definitely made everything a bit more fun.

The "common hour" section had us work on a few short papers about what we are doing to get involved in the DePaul community (since it's a class for freshmen) and other reflection-like assignments and papers. There are two big spoken word "performances" that are presentations for the class, and there are assignments from the spoken word textbook.

Professor Howell was great -- very positive and lively, understanding and willing to give extensions or extra time on assignments if needed, easy to get in contact with and gave great feedback on assignments!

To incoming freshmen, I definitely would recommend signing up for your Discover class earlier so you can take something with a more interesting topic -- it will help make the class much more tolerable.
