This class was just alright. You definitely get a lot of practice public speaking, including writing speeches and analyzing them, but I think I would have liked the class a lot more if I had a different professor.
There is a free online textbook that we used to learn basic concepts, then wrote a midterm paper analyzing two of a famous speaker's speeches (Presidents, public figures, etc.) After that, we had three speeches that we wrote ourselves and performed for the class. We got to pick our own topics, but it had to follow a list of specific criteria and my professor would be kind of picky about what you could and couldn't do for each type of speech we learned about.
I wasn't the biggest fan of hers -- as mentioned, she was very picky about your speech topics and the criteria you had to follow. She would nitpick little things about your speeches when you performed them and take points off for the littlest things. She was also extremely condescending when you had questions to ask her, especially over email. She would keep us late after class because she rambled during lectures. She wasn't awful, but if you can avoid her, I would.
This professor was EXTREMELY strict with attendance. If you did not show up to class, you would have to get your absence excused by the Dean of Students, or you would be penalized.
