It was definitely a challenge but what I learned has helped me in higher level English courses
First essay is an in person exam-like essay on A Farewell to Arms. It was the biggest challenge in the class for me. Second essay is over a poem and was not too bad, but she graded a bit harshly. Final essay was a 7 page research paper over Raymond Carver’s What We Talk About When We Talk About Love. That paper taught me the most and had helped with papers I am working on now in more difficult classes. Aside from papers, there are “minute papers” at the start of almost every class. She gives you a prompt that is usually based on the reading you were supposed to do prior to class and you have ten minutes to write a response.
She is an excellent professor. You can tell she cares a lot about the students and content. She is very lenient with extensions. She seems like a tough grader, but your final grade is not based on the numerical grades she gives you, she instead bases your final grade on how hard you’ve worked and how much you’ve improved throughout the semester. I got an A and most of my grades in class definitely did not completely match that. She does care about attendance and minute papers usually cannot be made up unless you were absent for medical reasons.
