This is the first introductory chemistry course taken by STEM students in U0. It reviews, explores in more depth, and builds off of the grade 12 chemistry course in high school. I took the course online during COVID, and it went pretty well. The lectures were well paced and moderated on Zoom, and recordings were readily available. Quizzes and assignments were also quite fair and doable. There were no formal midterms or exams for this course when I took it, but this might have changed.
Atomic Theory: historical development up to the quantum model, focus on Bohr's model, study of the periodic table of elements. Bond Theory: types of bonds, Lewis structures, Valence Bond Theory, hybridization, Molecular Orbital Theory, intermolecular forces. Organic Chemistry: nomenclature, functional groups, isomers, organic reactions. Other topics: reaction mechanisms, transitional elements, coordination compounds, complexes.
Both were very nice and helpful. They answered all questions during class and through email effectively. The grading scheme was also adjusted to help students deal with the stresses of online learning.
Do the suggested practice problems and attend tutorials. You will have to present the tutorial problem assigned to you on Visual Classroom to your tutorial group. The weekly quizzes are fairly easy, with the main challenge being that the allotted time is so short. Assignments and timed assessments (exams) had problems that were fairly similar to tutorial problems. Pay special attention to SigFigs during the labs.

Mostly review from high school and deeper content. Online lab wasn’t my thing. Tutorials were helpful.

If you did well in high school chemistry this course should be review. While some topics are delved in with more depth you probably have seen it all in high school.
Tutorials are graded so attend.
