This the second introductory chemistry course taken by all STEM students in U0. It builds off the Grade 12 chemistry course in high school. I took the course online during COVID and it went pretty well. Like CHEM 110, the lectures were well paced and moderated on Zoom. My only complaint is that some of the recorded lectures were fairly long. The quizzes and assignments were a bit more difficult than CHEM 110, but still overall doable. There were no formal midterms for this course when I took it.
Thermodynamics: gas laws, gas mixtures, enthalpy, entropy Chemical Kinetics: Kinetic Molecular Theory of Gases, reaction rates, reaction mechanisms, calorimetry Physical Chemistry: chemical equilibrium, intermolecular forces, properties of mixtures Acid-Base Chemistry: nomenclature, pH and pOH scales, titration, neutralization reactions Electrochemistry: ionic equilibrium, ionization potential, electrochemical reactions
The course is shared between three professors who each covered their own section of the course. They were all pretty nice and explained things well. The grading scheme was also adjusted to make online learning easier for students.
Do the comprehension questions after each set of recorded lecture videos and make sure to get the answers during the live sessions because these questions serve as the foundation for quiz and exam questions. Tutorial questions are equally important. Make sure to take clear and organized notes as this course is content heavy and things will pile up very quickly. Lab component was pretty fun and interesting. Quizzes and timed assessments were not too bad but the final was challenging due to being longer and having some harder questions.
