Course on thermodynamics and heat transfer. Some topics from CHEM 120 revisited in more details. Pretty dense, lots of material to cover.
Miscellaneous: Units, definitions, conversions between metric and imperial Barometry: how to calculate pressure using fluid manometers Thermodynamic Properties of Pure Substances: Substance states/phases (compressed liquid, saturated mixture, superheated vapor, etc.), T-V and P-V diagrams, using property tables, Ideal Gas Law First Law of Thermodynamics for Closed Systems: Energy, heat, work, conservation of energy, boundary work, P-V diagrams, specific heat, enthalpy First Law of Thermodynamics for Open Systems: control volumes, flow rate, conservation of mass, steady-flow processes, conservation of the rate of energy exchange, common open systems (nozzles, diffusers, turbines, compressors, throttling valves, heat exchangers, mixing chambers) Second Law of Thermodynamics: Heat engine...read more
