Comments on the course

The course is content-heavy, but it won't be difficult if you keep up with the modules. Labs are held every alternative week, followed by post-lab assignments due within a week, allowing sufficient time for completion. In this course, there are three midterms and a formal lab report to complete. The midterms consist of a combination of multiple-choice and subjective questions. Attending the lectures and taking thorough notes is essential for doing well in this course.

Comments on the course

Overall i absolutely loved this class. The content and the labs were very interesting and fun to learn about especially since the labs had a personal component to them. Da Silva was by far the best and i thought her test questions were generally straight forward and were pretty similar to module/lecture content. Kajiura on the other hand not as enjoyable and her style of teaching was slightly different. Her test questions however (still sorta fair) but not as fair and straightforward as da Silva. Kajiura often gave open ended questions even though she only wanted one specific answer… overall though great class and my ta was also amazing!

Course Content

Super interesting imo especially if you prefer more molec bio and human bio instead of like plant bio and evolution (which is bio 1m03 content). Very fun and useful however sometimes would be heavy since there was lors of processes. LOVED the applied lectures though. They did a great way at implementing real life examples based on the weekly content (da Silva s applied lectures were way better imo)

Advice

Make sure you dont just memorize and actually understand the processes and the content or else it will be more difficult

tests are very fair as long as you do a bunch off of studocu, just memorize the scripts and notes from the applied slides and you will be good. and study with others

Comments on the course

This course was pretty similar to grade 12 cell bio, and so if you did well in that you've got a decent advantage here. Although not super difficult, I found this course to be a lot of work. There's 2 weekly "pre-lecture" modules you need to watch (about an hour total) and take notes on. Plus taking notes on the two weekly lectures. Plus bi-weekly labs, lab quizzes, and post-lab assignments. There's 3 midterms, no final exam but a final report. Definitely time-consuming but if you put in the work it's not difficult to succeed.

Comments on the professor

Both profs were good lecturers, and there was plenty of practice tests to prepare you for the midterms.

Comments on the course

Great course that doesn’t require prior information on cell biology. The prof and TAs really tried to explain the concepts and made the content and labs easier. The pre lab quizzes were straightforward but could be tough some times. The labs were time consuming but not too hard thanks to the TA. The lab reports were straightforward and not too difficult and the TAs really helped with any questions. The formal lab report is a little harder to get marks in but it’s just an accumulation of the lab reports don’t throughout the semester. There are 3 tests throughout the semester which can be tough.

Comments on the professor

Prof was great and explain concepts very well and tried to make the slides engaging.

Advice

Definitely take this course if you plan on doing any cell biology course in the future such as BIO 2B03 as it opens up the options for many courses especially if you’re in life science.
