Very interesting and challenging course. Content focuses on (real) x-ray interactions in a crystal, phonons, a touch of Raman, electronic structure/perturbations in a material leading into semiconductor behaviors.

Toberer took the time to write his own lecture notes, distilling down a quite complex topic into something understandable. He held office hours several times a week which were typically well utilized to help students understand the complicated material.
