Prof: Nancy Rhodes / Fall 2024
Dec 16, 2024
Overall, this course had valuable content, but it often felt boring and repetitive due to the heavy reliance on lectures and essays. While the asynchronous format provides flexibility, it could be improved by incorporating more engaging elements such as interactive discussions, case studies, or multimedia content like videos or real-world examples. Adding opportunities for peer interaction, such as discussion boards or group activities, would also make the learning experience more dynamic and engaging.
The course included weekly lectures, frequent online quizzes, and six essays throughout the semester. While the content was useful for understanding consumer behavior concepts, the structure sometimes felt overwhelming with back-to-back assignments. The weekly quizzes helped reinforce key concepts, but the frequency added pressure. The essays, although time-consuming, allowed for a deeper exploration of course material and real-world applications. Overall, the content was practical, but balancing the workload with more interactive activities could make it more impactful.
The professor was approachable and responsive, replying to nearly every email, which was helpful for clarifying questions or concerns. One major advantage was the reasonable time given to complete the essays, with a week to work on them, which helped manage the workload. Additionally, the 20-minute time limit for the quizzes was fair and ensured they were concise. However, the workload itself—particularly with the six essays—was demanding for an online class. To improve the experience, the professor could consider breaking up larger essays into smaller, more manageable assignments or providing optional feedback opportunities before final submissions. Overall, the professor was supportive and organized, but adjustments to the workload could enhance the course balance.
Before taking this class, I wish I knew that the course would feel quite boring and repetitive**, primarily due to the heavy focus on lectures and essays. The workload includes six essays, which are time-consuming, alongside weekly quizzes that require consistent effort. Knowing this in advance would have helped me better prepare for the amount of writing and plan my time more effectively. I also would have appreciated a heads-up that the class lacks engaging or interactive elements, so I could set realistic expectations for a more self-driven learning experience.
