Prof: Zal Phiroz / Fall 2024
Dec 17, 2024
Overall, the class provided a balanced experience in terms of time management, particularly for homework assignments, which allowed students to work at a comfortable pace. The professor also made an effort to hold meetings whenever possible, which added a layer of support for those who needed clarification. However, the simulations were a drawback—they often felt time-consuming and did not add much value to the learning process. The final exam was timed, but overall, the class felt manageable and relatively chill, aside from the frustration caused by the simulations.
The course content included simulations, homework, and exams, serving as an introduction to the core concepts of the subject. The homework assignments and exams were useful for reinforcing the material, especially for students new to the topic. However, the simulations, while intended to provide hands-on learning, often felt like a waste of time because they were overly time-consuming and didn’t necessarily contribute to a deeper understanding of the material. Despite this, the combination of assignments and exams provided a structured approach to learning and ensured that key concepts were covered.
The professor was good and approachable, particularly when it came to responding to emails and offering assistance when needed. This support was valuable for students navigating the course content. Another positive was the time provided for homework and simulations, which allowed flexibility for completion without feeling rushed. On the downside, the simulations were a significant con—they were time-consuming and did not feel particularly useful for learning the course material. It might be helpful if the professor could either streamline the simulations or replace them with more practical, engaging activities. Overall, the professor created a supportive environment, and their responsiveness to student concerns helped make the course more manageable.
Before taking this class, I wish I knew that the simulations would be very time-consuming and sometimes felt less effective for learning. It would have been helpful to understand how much time they would require in advance, so I could plan better. Additionally, the course could benefit from being more engaging by incorporating activities or examples beyond just simulations and presentations. Knowing this beforehand would have set clearer expectations and allowed me to approach the course with better time management strategies.
