This is by far the most useless and disorganized class I have ever taken. You are forced to take this class the first semester at NCSU. It is a pass/fail class, and it runs off a point system. If you get 700 points before the final, you are exempt. However, it is extremely convoluted what assignments are worth what points, and you have to email the course TA's or the professor all the time for verification. I've had to wait for over a week to find out how well I did on the labs or independent assignments. This is an easy class, but it is time consuming. For a one credit class, I had to put over 6 hours a week into it in an attempt to be exempt from the final exam (don't know if I am yet). Thats six hours that I could've used for classes that actually matter. You are required to download p...read more
90% of this class is useless knowledge. The useful content that I can argue for is the Excel week, and thats only because Excel is a very powerful tool that can be used for any data driven major. The on campus resources are also useful, but those could have been covered during one class at orientation (or even in an email). Networking into a computer remotely? Maybe useful, but who needs to do that nowadays when everyone has a laptop. UNIX? Useless. HTML/CSS or Networking? Useless unless you're a computer science major. As for hardware, why are we being quizzed on keyboard plugs that haven't been in use since the 90's?
Never spoke to her once. Her videos were at times unclear and confusing. This class is run by the TA's.
There is nothing you can do except leave a terrible post course review and hope that it changes or is dropped for future generations. You are forced to take this class, it doesn't count toward your GPA since it is a pass/fail class, and is a complete waste of valuable time.
