Challenging. You will learn a lot and will need to take time out of class to learn the material if you want to speak Korean. Very welcoming environment. 101-102 is taught primarily in English. 103 transitions to more Korean/English (preparing you for 2nd year when you can only talk in Korean).
Weekly assignments (2-3/wk) Weekly Voice Thread (virtual 1/wk) Quizes on vocab (1/wk totaling 8-9) In-person attendance is big Can earn back points on quizes Lots of extra-credit available
I, along with everyone I've interacted with, cannot say enough good things about her! I adore her and I'm so sad she doesn't teach 2nd year Korean. She is caring, prompt, funny, and knowledgeable. She is very approachable, kind, and easy going. She wants you to learn, but mostly have fun learning. Probably the best instructor I've had in my life.
Be kind to yourself and remind yourself that learning a language is a process. Even as a native English speaker, I still struggle (hourly if not by the minute). Invest in time outside of class and find something to connect to (featuring Korean) that will help you. For me, it was listening to music and reading lyrics as well as watching daily dramas without subtitles.
