Amazing class all due to Sean Humphrey. Currently taking BIOL 111 with him, and plan to take BIOL 231 during the summer because I heard he teaches that as well.
Pretty easy. From macromolecules to cell structure to photosynthesis is what this course contains. Lab exams are not delightful. Harder than it should be. Lecture exams, on the other hand, are quite easy. He gives you practice exams that contain the opposite question/option on the actual exam. Quizzes can be okay—things get worded weirdly and answers can be similar to each other. Group discussions can be a little difficult if you don't understand the content sufficiently enough. Homework is completion based.
He is amazing. I love this teaching style. He posted template slides for notes to incorporate active attention during lectures, and after lectures, he posts his presentation notes. He is quite a chill guy.
Study for the lab exams. You get warned multiple times that they are quite more difficult than you would expect. If you don't understand something in the lab, ask. Do the focus questions. It may seem as if they aren't useful, but they are—especially for quizzes.

I really enjoyed this class. It was relatively easy and not bad at all. It required minimum work to be honest. There was one HW assignment per week. There is labs but I was never there longer than a hour and half sometimes I was out within 30 minutes. The lab exams though are terrible and suck, however the lecture exams are so easy.
The content within this class is useful especially if you end up taking BIOL111. I even used a lot of the concepts taught in CHM129.
I loved Dr Humphrey. He was awesome. He was great during lectures and made the material interesting. He took all and any questions during lecture too. Also he held review sessions before exams which practically gave you what was on the exam.
I would recommend going to those review exam sessions. Also staying on top of your work, the HW assignments are so easy and theres one per week. And it is grade on completion. The quizzes in lecture arent too bad either, they are usually on the lab and lectures from the previous week, just brush up the day before. The lab exams are its own beast. I would review not only the focus questions from lab, but the lab itself.

The course is relatively straightforward provided you stay on top of work. Some concepts are much more challenging than others. Tests are about the same in difficulty, which can be challenging if you do not understand the unit.
Prof. Humphrey was a great professor! Easy to understand his lectures and great explanations of biological concepts.
If you do not understand a concept, ask questions or go into office hours for help. Make sure you study and complete all work so you do not get behind.
