Great course that teaches fundamentals about digital circuit design. You'll be coding using System Verilog so it may be useful to brush up on it if you haven't used it for awhile. The course is heavily lab oriented with a homework or two sprinkled in. The last lab is a team project combining several modules together. Exams are fairly easy as well.
Very invested in his students and the subject. Always willing to give advice, and his lectures are fairly good as well.
Verification often takes more time than designing the circuit itself, so leave plenty of time to properly verify your designs.

Very interesting course full of incredibly useful material. I would highly recommend taking this course if you want to go into any sort of embedded systems design or software related EE position.
Wonderful professor and always willing to help. Very understanding and incredibly knowledgeable.
Get your labs done a few days in advance, and writing unit tests takes longer than the actual implementation sometimes.

Very time consuming course, but also very rewarding. If you are interested in digital design or verification, this class is a must-take. Just go in expecting the workload of a 4-credit class, despite it only being offered for 2. The labs are by far the bulk of the work and absolutely must be started very early as the semester goes on. Other homework isn’t too abundant, and isn’t bad. Exams also aren’t too bad, and the final is potentially optional if you have done well so far. There is also a lot of video material outside of lecture that is imperative to doing the labs/projects. Basically, if you put in the work (which there is a lot of), you will learn a lot in this class.
Dr. Johnson is a very knowledgeable professor and very helpful throughout the course. Very informative lectures, but there is too much content to be covered by the single weekly lecture.
