Rhodes was desperate for a new physical chemistry teacher this semester. The previous had retired and around 40 seniors needed this class to graduate that year. So we're starting off with a brand new professor. Small problem though - the course just got merged. Physical chemistry used to be two separate courses: CHEM 311 (Physical Chemistry I) and CHEM 312+L (Physical Chemistry II + Lab). These two courses just got compacted into what was already known to be a grade killer for many upperclassmen. Since it's been a long time since the class was last taught, there are also no existing students on campus who have taken physical chemistry. No TA's or SI's. Th...read more
A lot of more quantum mechanics focused physical chemistry. Less thermodynamics and gas law related content than expected. The lab was just learning Mathematica; we did not use the actual physical chemistry lab though this may have been just a thing since it was the first year P-chem was returning.
See "Overall Thoughts on Course" for details.
I HIGHLY advise you take MATH 223 (Multivariable Calculus). It is not required by the Registrar but it will make this course much more bearable.
