It's a theory class so expect lots of theory. Some people click with the material right away, others don't. If you fall behind ask for help, profs for this one are aware that some people can get a little lost. It's basically 4 essays throughout the term (4-5 pages) and a final exam. The class is a bunch of readings from political thinkers and essays to write.
If you're a POLS major it's probably useful. I can't say it came in handy for me, but the class was interesting enough that i didn't mind. You're gonna ready Locke, Rousseau, Mill and Marx. Rousseau will probably be the most difficult one because of how he writes. Locke is a bit older so you need to reread some of sentences, but other than Locke, Mill and Marx are straightforward.
Really good prof. She will help you as much as you need as long as you ask for it. Attendance isn't mandatory, nor is participation, but it will be appreciated. The class is dry by nature, but she tried her best to make it enjoyable and bring old theories into modern examples that lead to some funny discussions.
Don't freak out about the essays. They might seem really hard to do bc you have to criticize the theories, but you just need to pick one or two main arguments and break them down. That's all.
