Comments on the course

Great class for those who will be involved with exercise programming or prescription as its a foundational course for understanding more advanced content. Unlike the classes name, I wouldn't call it overly advanced, but it does start to eventually introduce more advanced ideas and is a mandatory pre requisite for some 4th year classes. The class has a TON of group work, so if you want to succeed you'll need to have a good group to work with. It's pretty hard to avoid group work in the 3rd year classes so for those who hate group work, you'll either have to suck it up or actually learn to work well with others.

Course Content

The content itself begins to lay the foundations for exercise program design both in the short term and long term. So it covers exercise types, programming methods for aerobic and resistance training, and much much more. I wouldn't say the class material itself is difficult, but its very content heavy and there is a lot to learn, especially for people with little to no exercise background. The class itself is quite useful for to those going into clinical exercise physiology settings and physiotherapy.

Comments on the professor

Michael's a great guy to teach the class as he knows the content incredibly well, clearly wants his students to succeed, and is transparent with exam content.

Advice

Nothing for myself, but for those going into it I would say you will want to consider your semester course load and future interests prior to starting the class. The keys to succeeding in this class are staying on top of studying, COMMUNICATE with group members, and do not be afraid to ask for help when its needed.
