Great class for those with an interest in clinical exercise physiology and exercise treatment methods. It sets up students with the foundational knowledge to succeed in either future medical studies and/or medical field work. The class itself in non cumulative in all its aspects as you focus for a month on cancer, then metabolic diseases, and then cardiovascular diseases. So its really 3-4 exams and then its over. To note, the class is usually co taught by people who are experts in their fields. So it isn't always one person teaching it, it can be anywhere from 1-3 people and this can include guest speakers.
The class itself when I took it was split in to 3 sections, 1. Metabolic diseases (i.e. diabetes, etc) 2. Cancers (Very general section as there are so many different types of cancer) 3. Cardiovascular disease The 1st and 3rd section of the class were nice extensions of what I had learned from prior course work, but the cancer section was brand new to me. If going into a clinical setting whether it be academic and/or work related, then this class is basically a must take.
The professor was great when I took the class! She was always available for questions and was clear on what would be examined and was always kind to students. She was quite new to test design so sometimes students took issue with a question or two, but otherwise I would take a class with her again.
I kind of wish I took it right after or with the co requisite class as the diabetes sections would have been more fresh in my mind. Overall for those with clinical studies or work in mind this is a great class to take.
