Comments on the course

There are small quizzes and assignments due by the end of every class. However, as they are worth very little marks, small mistakes aren’t detrimental to the final grade. Group projects, on the other hand, worth a lot more and make up the bulk of the final grade. Additionally, there are deductions for late assignment submissions, so keep that in mind and make sure you hand in everything on time. Textbooks and workbooks are downloadable online so no extra cost.

Course Content

The course specifically focuses on technical Chinese as used in the workplace. Emphasis on specialized vocabulary and development of communicative competence as relevant to advertising, the stock market and E-commerce.

Comments on the professor

First on the pros: Prof. Lu is a nice professor who sticks to the materials covered in the textbook and places a great emphasis on class participation. To get a good grade, you should work hard and follow her rules/advice. It is considered the final exam of her course and worths the most of the final grade. Overall, Pr...read more

Advice

There is a good amount of homework assignments, group projects and quizzes. Instructions are not always clear so students didn’t know what to expect when completing assignments. I don’t recommend this course to anyone looking for a GPA booster or an easy 400+ level Chinese course.
