Comments on the course

Rachel is a great prof, very understanding and knowledgeable about database. Fair exams. Make sure you have a good group for the project (not too difficult to get 100 on).

Course Content

The course is basically ER diagrams, how to translate ER diagrams into tables in a relational database, normalization (1nf,2nf,3nf,BCNF, how to reduce redundancy in databases), and then SQL and 1 data mining algorithm (Apriori).

Comments on the professor

Excellent.

Advice

Get good partners for the group project. Textbook is not needed.

Comments on the course

Great course, you learn about a lot of interesting concepts (eg. SQL) and the course project is pretty easy.

Comments on the professor

Absolutely take the course with Ed if possible. He's great at explaining concepts and makes jokes to make class more entertaining. One of my favorite profs at UBC.

Advice

Pretty easy CPSC course, just don't underestimate it and you'll be fine
