Do NOT take this course as an engineering student to fulfill the "Impact of Engineering on Society" credit. Take Civil 250 over the summer. It's an online course and all my engineering friends highly recommend it for this credit. This course is an engineering student's worst nightmare. I say this after I have drawn, yes, hand drawn 11 weekly reflection postcards, and 4 design exercise postcards worth of drawing. They take up an insane amount of time that should be spent tackling practice problems and assignments for actual academic courses. The readings are somewhat interesting but contain very little substance on urban planning/design, if any substance it is a very high level, such as bikes are better than cars, large outdoor plazas are better than highways etc.. You have to go to class t...read more
The content occasionally provokes some thought, but after all the postcards I have drawn, I have begun to resent this class for the constant weekly assignments it adds to my workload while not providing any lasting learning.
Prof gave okay lectures but never records them or posts the lecture slides or else no one would come to class. Again, you have to reflect on the lecture and reading so if the lecture slides were posted no one would go to class because they are 90 minutes and it is just example after example of things that are wrong about cities and vague design methods to fix some of them.
Don't take this class if you are an engineering student looking to fulfill your credit. That is the only reason you would be taking this class. Especially do not take this course if you are an international engineering student as you will pay about $4000 for the pleasure of making 12 weekly reflection postcards, 4 design exercise postcards, and a final project postcard.

Disclaimer: This is purely reading the course itself, nth wrong with any prof or TAs. - To be fair, I don’t see any usefulness of this course.
the content was about mainly raising concerns on local social issue. Then draw weekly postcards about your thoughts, lecture, to communicate with the society, etc. But Is this actually useful? Will you learn anything, knowledge gain, etc? you gotta think of sth and create them weekly while you’re taking other courses that you’ll actually learn from with heavy workload. I’ll leave that to yall.
the prof was ok, don’t really wanna give any bad comment
think twice before taking it. could be a gpa booster? But nw if you’re an art/ design student.
