Comments on the course

The lecture material can be dry at times but that is because we need to know background material for future classes and work in geology! During each lecture, there was time to discuss the application questions with our peers to further help reinforce the concepts. My favourite lectures were applied mineralogy and the rock record in the Earth. This year the labs were different from previous years as we did not have the hand samples and equipment physically with us. Instead, we looked at the minerals over zoom, which was a little tiring at times.

Advice

Make sure to really understand the material in the slides. There is a lot of memorization and application. Application of concepts is the harder part of the course such as applying methods (lecture) and identifying minerals (lab) so be sure to practice!
