No piazza support. No support material to practice for exams. All textbook. No annotated notes. Hard exam. There wasn't even a TA and another guy from the math department had to come in and help on piazza.
linear algebra, transformation, sys of eq. Is used in different maths
Mumbles. Not responsive via piazza. Gave barely any resources. Didn't even hire a TA. Forces you to read the textbook.
For practicing exams, find the bank of exams by the math department and visit old math 221 canvas pages (not easy to find) to get the practice exams. Studying is all done by you.

221 2023W1 was…..if you know you know. Trauma. I think about it every day and sob.
Legit nothing taught in class helped on exams. It was like the person writing them thought the class was an advanced abstract linear algebra class. Course content will fool you into thinking the exams will be manageable.
Out of 200 people only 20 showed up consistently. I don’t think I heard him finish a single thought of his. He also mumbled and just couldn’t teach (probably because he thought the course material was too easy).
Just don’t take it!

Very hard course by Macdonald. No help on piazza. The lectures are only him reading off a textbook. No practical examples. Very little practice material given. Exams had to be picked up in person. The only way to get an A is to read the textbook for hours straight and to salvage old canvas pages for practice material.
Basis, dimension, orthogonality, eigenvalues, eigenvectors. Lots of proofs
Doesn’t help on piazza. Doesn’t give practice material. Doesn’t explain concepts well. Doesn’t hand back exams unless you go in person

This course starts out very easy and then gets a fair bit harder at the end. Ben Williams, the course coordinator was quite fair and understanding about the course (especially during a pandemic). With that said, I just don't like the content. I don't fault the profs for this -- I think it's hard to make this course very interesting for people like me who just don't like it. With that said, putting the effort in should net you a decent grade. This is one of the few MATH courses that is not super difficult.

Probably one of the easiest math courses at UBC in my opinion. I found the material very interesting too.
Like most math classes, doing a ton of practice will help you succeed. Go through the textbook and do practice after each lecture.

Good course but problems are tedious to do by hand sometimes.
