Workload was chill. Just a midterm reflection, final paper, and take home final exam. Marking though; was capped at 85. If you're a top student, this may not be your class/prof
Picking up on the first review of this course, that's how it generally goes - luckily, not with Amanda
Super nice and caring and understanding, but quite dry too. Lectures are more comprehensive than the narrow sparse readings that matter and tend to be based on her interests. Assignments/finals are all reading based
I generally don't suggest 301. If you must take it, take w/ Amanda Cheong

This class was really interesting, and I feel like I learned a lot about development. Grading was fairly tough for written assignments but I felt like the midterm and final were pretty fair. Course was super readings heavy and I found that keeping up with the assigned reading each week was a lot of work.
I found the content of this class super interesting, and it gave a very effective overview of the history of development (colonialism, development, globalization, sustainability) as well as looking at specifics (eg. Fair Trade, SDG's) Personally didn't feel that much of the content was economics heavy, but that being said I have taken ECON 101/102.
Interesting and knowledgable lecturer. Uses a lot of Kahoots in class which I personally really enjoyed. I felt like marking was pretty tough.
Keep up with the readings

I'm genuinely surprised that this course has no economics/finance/business prerequisite. I took this course under the impression that it would discuss more of the social implications of development and underdevelopment by exploring poverty, tourism, work conditions in sweatshops, consumerism, neocolonialism, etc. but so much of it was centered around economics and finance, not sociology. I had straight As until this course where I got a B and then a D and I knew it was over. If you're interested in market crashes, market liberalization, the world economy, and international financial institutions, this course is for you. But if you don't think you can comprehend any of that, I'd highly recommend you stay away from this course.
Dead silence happening every single time the prof asks a question (even among the students who were talkative in the first few lectures) should be indicative that the class isn't keeping up. Oral is a nice professor who can be funny, but I think he could be more attuned to when the class clearly isn't understanding what's going on.
I wish I had any background in economics and finance at all. Do not take this course if you don't know a thing about economics and finance.
