Prof: Jennifer Cowe / Spring 2022

Helped me a lot to understand why I wasn't getting better grades in other courses. Wish I had taken it in 1st year.
Nostalgia is an interesting topic and I enjoyed how she connected the papers to the textbook. Getting used to writing gist notes for articles has changed how I work.
She knows what she's talking about and enjoys a good debate. Very sarcastic, so if that's not your thing don't take the course. She's tough on grading and doesn't do do-overs.
Go in humble and you'll learn a lot.

See below
Nice topic and fair workload
Terrible prof that refuses to help and follows her own interests and opinions largely, as if she's always right and somehow naturally superior to others
Nostalgia is bad. #Revolution

Prof: Andrew Connolly / Summer 2021

The focus on celebrity culture made the course content interesting and more bearable. It was easy to think of possible essay topics. There were weekly quizzes, discussion boards and many small assignments that add up to make your grade.
I thought Dr. Connolly was a good professor. He was super accessible and responded to emails in a timely manner - providing detailed feedback. Our class average was super low and he blamed the class for it ...lowkey he wasn't wrong but it just seemed a bit much.
Work on your assignments in advance to perfect your MLA formatting because the grading is very strict. If you are confused ask the prof in advance and make sure to get feedback on the participation exercises to do well on the bigger assignments.

It's a course that everyone needs to take, let's face it. It's really painful, but Jennifer Cowe is a good prof and nice. Marks HARD tho. I appreciated how there weren't too many assignments, b/c there's a lot of things going on for everyone and writing is hard. And her topic is nostalgia which I enjoyed to a certain extent.
WRDS 150 is a VERY HARD CLASS. Find a good prof AND A GOOD TOPIC THAT YOU'LL BE INTERESTED IN. Be aware that it's subject to change too. Try to see if anyone's taken that prof before, you could get some good info. And take it as early as possible to get it done and over with!
