Retook Drawing 1 with Professor Culibao after failing Robert Rivers' class in fall 2020. Professor Culibao is very knowledgeable about figure drawing and she clearly explains each step of the figure drawing process clearly and effectively. SVAD wants to see students put lots of care into their drawings, so Culibao's class helps students learn the skills needed to succeed. I highly recommend her class!

Professor Culibao is very effective at teaching figure drawing and she makes sure every student understands the concepts

Put lots of love and care into your drawings -- especially if you are applying for studio art, animation, and/or graphic design portfolios. I strongly recommend coming into the drawing studios and/or VAB hallways after hours since you will mostly be drawing still lifes of skeletons and boxes.

Course was extremely difficult for an introductory course. class was 6 hours long and very boring. along with that we still had to complete 3 hour homeworks.

pretty much drew boxes and skulls the entire time, pretty boring but learned new drawing techniques

did not show very many demos on how to draw or teach very well, sometimes would leave the building and require us to draw on our own with no help, harsh grader

you will spend $200 on materials for this class and spend a ton of time on it so take it with other easier classes

Difficult class, strict professor. You have to put in work and go above and beyond if you want to pass. It’s also an important part of any art portfolios (studio, character animation, etc.) so please put in a lot of love and care into your drawings!

Look at any videos on the techniques explained in class. Do not draw from photos.
