Prof: Gou / Spring 2020
Jul 17, 2022
An excellent course that explores the engineering principles behind machine design and component selection. For many students, what is learned in this course becomes a major part of their careers.
Very useful content, including the analysis and design of shafts, beams, gears, springs, screws and nuts/bolts, pressure vessels, and other mechanisms relevant to mechanical engineering.
Gou is a good professor, although he can be quiet and difficult to understand in lecture if you sit in the back. He is pretty helpful in office hours as well.
Buy a hardcover copy of Shigley’s (the textbook for this course), as it is a treasure trove of helpful reference material you might find yourself using in your career. Many seasoned engineers still have their copy of Shigley’s in their office somewhere.
