The lectures and course material were very engaging. We applied family communication theories and concepts to our own lives in our essays, which helped me think about my own relationships. The TAs were a bit strict with grading the papers (one short paper and one standard research essay), but it was nothing out of the ordinary. Weekly assigned reading was pretty light. There were also a few quizzes that were pretty easy. Overall, I highly recommend this class with Afifi!

I learned about various theories related to family dynamics (parent-children relationships, couples, siblings, etc.) and applied them to understand my own family dynamics. The assigned research paper involved interviews with students' parents which ended up being a memorable experience. (Students could ask for exemptions to write about something else).

Afifi is a great lecturer with organized slides. She is also understanding and caring (and gives off cool mom vibes).

Make sure to adhere to essay rubrics closely!
