I really loved the subject matter of the course and felt that everything we learned was very interesting. I would say the workload is light (weekly textbook readings, short lectures, and a quiz; you only need to do like 6 diary entries; 3 bigger discussion posts; and 3 open-note/book tests), however, the textbook readings were pretty time-consuming for me. Even though I spent a lot of time reading and taking notes, I found all the information very interesting to me so I'd say it was all worth it.
Some of the concepts were a little unsettling, but I still enjoyed it a lot. The course goes over many disorders in detail.
Professor Wang is literally the sweetest professor ever. She and her TAs sent out very descriptive announcement posts and made all the assignments/requirements very clear from the beginning. I loved the way she set up the class on CANVAS (with the theme of being on a cruise ship).
Take thorough notes on the textbook and lectures because it'll help you on the open-note, open-book tests.

I really enjoyed my semester taking abnormal psych. It was informative and very fun, though it is what I want to specialize in. The work is pretty consistent, but was never very difficult, and Dr. Feihong Wang does not construct the class to be very difficult.
She was wonderful. While the lecture videos were a bit boring at times, compared to some other psych teachers, she is vastly more engaging. I also only ever had one problem with one of my grades and it was late in the semester during finals. I emailed her pretty late at night on a Friday and she responded very quickly and fixed the problem that night. All in all, a lovely woman and a great class.
Read each chapter all the way through at least once. The textbook chapters are loooooong, but when you need to find specific information, it makes it so much easier if you know the general location/section.

LOVED it, would recommend it to anyone that needs to take it for an elective.
Honestly a SUPER interesting class, and at least with Brown, it was super easy. Barely even had to pay attention since everything is common knowledge.
She is understanding and very knowledgeable. The only thing is that she over-explains a bit but that's good if you have no background in psych.
Don't buy the textbook because you really don't need it.

Honestly pretty cool course. Covers all the bases of abnormal psych and I like the textbook that we use (Nolan-Hoeksema) because it's easy to follow and not boring like most textbooks are. There are weekly assignments (modules) due that aren't bad either. Easy work that can be done in one sitting tbh.
Very useful content because it's ab psych and will be foundational if you're a psych major. Also just useful in general to get to know yourself or view others in a more knowledgeable framework.
Great prof. She's very open and gives feedback to students after checking in with us periodically throughout the semester. You can really tell that she cares about her students, despite this being an online class. Very acommodating prof too.
Take Wang, no one else lol

As a psychology major, this course was absolutely fascinating. I would say it's definitely "easier" than cognitive psychology, but not as "easy" as developmental psychology (difficulty levels vary by person, but this is my personal opinion). I really enjoyed this class because we learned about virtually every psychological disorder, the known causes, examples, symptoms, etc. There were also a lot of great discussion/application questions, where we would be given a sample "case file" where we analyze the person's situation and apply different psychological concepts to come up with the best solution. Basically, a great introduction to clinical therapy. I would put "easy" if the rating was solely based on the actual material, but because of the huge literature review project, I would say the ...read more
Dr. Schwartz was definitely a great professor and very knowledgeable about the subject. Her lectures were very interesting, and she always used real examples from her own personal experience (working with mentally ill criminals) which really added to the learning experience. Since it was online, I wasn't able to establish much of a connection with her, and there were a few instances where I felt she should connect better with the students. Overall, great class!

Course was taught 100% online. Material was interesting, but some chapters were definitely uncomfortable to study because of the material. The professor gives drops for several assignments though, so it’s definitely still doable.
Feihong Wang was good, but I didn’t have much interaction with her. It was all online, and the class was large, so I really only interacted with TA’s. I also didn’t really watch lectures and just used the textbook.
Not a difficult class, but very interesting. Just do the work and you’ll be fine.
