Prof: Chelsea Cantrell / Spring 2024

A really great opportunity to learn more about the fundamentals of 2D animation and connect with other animation students in the class! This was probably my favorite class I took this semester. Can be taken 100% in-person or 100% (with the opportunity to attend lectures over Zoom).
Primarily lecture-based, with a focus on analyzing animation techniques, discussing the principles in Richard William's "The Animator's Survival Kit", and practicing drawing fundamentals, like figure drawing. Expect a lot of feedback sessions on your assignments, which can be difficult to hear but is ultimately really useful.
Ms. Cantrell is really passionate about animation, and every single lecture taught me something new and useful. She usually falls behind on grading, but if you stick to the principles taught in class for projects, it's not difficult to get an A.
The bulk of the course is based on two eight-week projects, so plan specific times in the week to work on them. It's doable as long as you don't wait until the last few weeks to get started.
