Prof: Ghatu Subhash / Spring 2024
May 12, 2024
Course was very fun and interesting but you have to participate heavily. Homeworks and tests are very fair and doable if you know the content thoroughly. TAs are extremely helpful on top of the professor. Material was interesting but sometimes a bit disjointed such as pressure vessels not really being integrated into any other problems.
Mostly just shear stress, normal stress, and strain and applications of them. Content was hard to grasp at first but with enough practice it will become second nature.
Amazing professor, I recommend taking over any other one. Subhash goes hard on the conceptual stuff which is needed to literally do the course. You cannot do the problems without the concepts down. Gave some curves and extra points throughout the semester which is nice because this course is hard to get an A in. Only gripe is that he doesn't do recordings or online lectures, so make sure you do your best to go to every class. Material is very hard to understand without going to class.
Know the concepts well, go to TAs as often as you can and ask every question you can think of because it has a good chance of being on the exam.

Prof: Douglas Spearot / Fall 2021
Jan 8, 2022
Essentially just Statics, but using material property formulas to solve otherwise indeterminate problems.
Douglas Spearot is the best teacher I have ever had. He is very good at teaching the course content in a simple way. His exams are very fair. He is somewhat lenient on late homework and quizzes.
Practice/HW problems are extremely important.
