Comments on the course

The course was alright. I think we met like twice a week for an hour. She uses this clicker program called "TopHat" for participation which actually makes up a decent amount of your grade, so you kind of have to go. Big lecture hall and she goes pretty fast, highly recommend study edge.

Course Content

All of regular calculus 1 content except for the trig.

Comments on the professor

Professor Shabazz would often make mistakes during lectures and would skip over what I considered important operations during practice problems. She knew what she was doing but she could not really translate that well to a bunch of people that have never taken calculus. She was, however, a very nice person and gave a decent amount of extra credit and would work with you to help improve your grade.

Advice

DO NOT FALL BEHIND ON THE MML, YOU WILL BE SCREWED IF YOU DO. ALSO, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE!!

I don't even know how to define this class. If you don't know what your doing or are familiar with calc than your screwed. The homework's are very hard and time consuming. EXAMS ARE EXTREMELY HEAVY. IF YOU FAIL TWO HORRIBLY THAN YOUR DONE FOR. There's some extra credit to help you pass. Quizzes don't add much to your grade nor does the homework. If you get Cs on every exam and do all the homework and quizzes plus extra credit you can probably pass with a B or B+. Homework every week and 1 quiz every week.

Course Content

LOTS OF STUFF. You learn a lot of stuff for one semester. From derivatives and limits to maxima's and minimums.

Comments on the professor

She seems nice but you have to understand that these teachers have about 700 kids in there class so they don't really care if you pass or fail. On our 2nd exam this semester I think about 50% of the class failed and the very next lecture she said to the class" You guys just need to work harder".....

Advice

I recommend a tutor. That's the only reason why I passed. Get a good one who can help you explain stuff step by step or you will be lost. If you don't get caught up with the material than you are done for.

Comments on the course

I found this course pretty fun and interesting, not hard, but you do need to go to class and study material. Also, the last math class I took was 10th grade, 2017-18 for me, and it was algebra 2 -- yeah you dont need precalc.

Course Content

Basically, precalc/algebra 2 review, then limits, then derivative, then optimization and integrals, then fundamental theorem of calc and U-sub.

Comments on the professor

She's cool, idk didn't really talk to her, classtime wasn't super interesting

Advice

PLS GO TO CLASS, top hat EC is only available in lecture and its like up to 3%, do yourself a favor.

Comments on the course

The lectures themselves are very disorganized and she teaches at such a breakneck pace that it was next to impossible for me to learn in the classroom. If you work out the problems yourself and have a natural math brain the workload is manageable (10-15 question homework assignments due M-W, quizzes due F) and there are opportunities for extra credit.
