Ended with an A- when I had a C during the semester, so don't get caught up on your current grade in the course. It's not necessary to go to class considering that the lectures are recorded, but I went for the sake of keeping myself accountable so that when I studied for exams by watching the recorded lectures, I had already seen the material before.
Content isn't really useful but it's a necessary course for BCN majors.
Knackstedt talks slowly and monotonously and is very hesitant to curve grades at the end of the semester. She didn't curve for my class.
Don't read the textbook--all exam content is from exams. Memorize ALL slide content--everything is fair game, even on the optional final exam. Spend a few days before the exam watching the recorded lectures and committing the information to memory and you will get at least a B on the exams. Get SONA research participation out of the way early so that you're not stressed at the end of the semester.

The material is interesting but is very dense. The professor made it more difficult than it needed to be by giving multiple choice exams with ambiguous questions with answers that could easily be argued to be correct depending on how specific of an answer the question was looking for. She also gave some questions that had multiple correct answer choices but no way to select them all (although most questions had a choice that said something like "both A and B are correct")
The content is useful if you are pre-health.
The professor cared about the material but often acted condescending towards students during office hours.
Memorize everything you can using flashcards. Learning to draw neurotransmitter and sensory pathways from memory is extremely useful.

This is an interesting class and i’m sad that the professor is so awful. he gives you way more info than you need to know but not the information you need for the exams.
content is only useful if it’s required for your major

Overall AWFUL class, but this might be because of the professor. There are 4 exams throughout the semester and they're all 40 q's scantron, in-person style. There is one term paper you have to write (1500-2000 words) on a topic of your choice from a list he gives you. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he does offer 0.25 pt extra credit quizzes that open and close during lecture periods. All this sounds fair, right? Well, the prof honestly ruins it by making mistakes on exams (i.e. writing them wrong or completely forgetting to register DRC accommodations so he tells us the night before our exam that it's pushed back two days instead), having extremely disorganized lectures (see below), and not providing ANY sort of practice material for exams (no previous exams, no practice questions, not ev...read more
Honestly not useful. Take EXP3604 (cognitive psych) and call it a day. A lot of the same stuff is (poorly) covered in this class but with more pain. Save yourself the effort. Only taking this class because it's required for my major which is really unfortunate.
Like I said, prof was awful. He's a really good person (extremely passionate abt functional neuroanatomy and whatnot), but the problem is that he goes on too many LONG tangents during lectures about stuff that he ends up saying we don't need to know at all and that he just thinks it's cool. This obviously wastes a lot of time because we end up having to sift through his many ppt slides for exam material. The powerpoints he posts on Canvas are also not the correct powerpoints that he uses in lecture period, so good luck trying to follow along. Powerpoints are also 50-200 slides long because of the tangent issue (i.e. him including diagrams & other info from his grad student classes for fun that take up many many slides) and therefore we are always behind in material for exam time. Exams are...read more
I already saw Schwendt's ratemyprof rating and it was bad. But seriously, if you can take this course with a different prof, DO IT AND SAVE YOURSELF. Also study lots of quizlets and some textbook chapters if you want to even remotely pass the exams. Good luck.
