This class is worlds easier than it's made out to be, and this is from someone who dropped out of high school the 3rd month of sophomore year and hadn't passed math since the 8th grade. I realized quickly that these concepts were simpler than they were being presented as and ended up not missing a single point in the entire course.
Some people hate on ALEKS, but I found it super useful. It reminded me of Study Island days, which I always thought helped me grasp tough concepts. The exams matched the study materials and, outside of being proctored, were pretty low-stress. The only part of this course I hated was the written assignments, which were crazy time-consuming for what they were.
Schlenker is an awesome professor. She was fantastic about disability accommodations, sent fun emails to update us on how we were doing in the course, and was super helpful during her office hours. Treat her with kindness and respect, and you'll get it back.
Hot take, but use Khan Academy and YouTube to learn these concepts, NOT the materials provided in the course! The lectures have some helpful material, but beyond that, I hardly touched any of the other materials. This course takes insanely easy concepts and makes them so much more complicated than they have to be based on how they're taught. Some of these topics are literally "dressed up" versions of math we learned in middle school. Watch simplified videos, and don't get caught up in their clunky learning materials.
