First off, this is a FILM PHOTOGRAPHY course. I didn't know till the syllabus came in. But even though it is film, it's a ton of fun. Best part is seeing the photos you shot come out well. I enjoy art courses but this course was major work; sometimes it was 2 or 3 rolls of films developed a week (around 72 to 108 pics) and the final project was about 5 rolls.
Basically you shoot the theme of Maria's choosing each week, it's supposed to exercise a specific skill: motion shots, night shots, aperture control, portraits. The final project will be left up to you to decide the theme.
Maria is old-school so she's both knowledgeable and takes nothing from nobody. Don't be scared to ask her for advice because her advice will help you to make your shooting and developing better. Drawback is that she's kinda mean but you learn quickly because of that. Take notes of what she says or set up a class group chat or discord; it'll help.
You have to buy ALL the materials yourself; Maria can offer some supplies but it's still very costly. Everything for me was about $300, def consider the cost before you enroll. You can buddy with someone (or a group) to split the cost and supplies equally to lighten the load if you need to take this course for a major. Also, consider that this class will take a lot of time. If I wasn't in the darkroom at least once a week, I was behind on work. And keep an eye on your stuff, people can (and will) steal it if unattended in the darkroom. Btw, the darkroom can get super full. Better to develop early when you have time than have to fight students from every film course for space.
