I was not interested in the subject at first, but it definitely grew on me. The class itself is a bit difficult. I would not say there is a heavy workload, but she grades quite harshly on the assignments we do have. It is pretty difficult to get an A.
We only had two exams, one of the them being the final. Aside from that, there were two essays and occasional discussion posts and pop quizzes (that she sends the questions for) whenever she felt like it. The exams are a bit difficult, but if you are knowledgeable about the reading you should do okay. The essays were both 8 pages minimum. She lets you turn them in early so she can give feedback and let you change it before you turn it in officially. The feedback helped a lot. Also, she cares a lot about prosody. That is something I’ve never been good at and I was always intimidated when she’d bring it up, but I now feel a bit more confident in my abilities thanks to her always making us study it. She is a good professor. She cares a lot. I only wish she was a bit nicer when it came to grading. If you want a really structured class where you know all of the due dates and assignments beforehand, I would not recommend taking her. The dates for discussion posts, quizzes, and essays can change whenever. The only due dates that were certain were the two tests.
