Prof: Thomas Soehl / Fall 2023
Jan 3, 2024
An introduction to the social, economical, and political aspects international migration. The course includes both literary (reading papers, and writing discussions), and quantitative (analyzing data and generating graphs) aspects.
Philosophical considerations, theories of migration, refugees, immigrant communities, state control over migration, history of Canadian immigration policy, effects of immigration on the economy, assimilation and integration, descendants of immigrants, cross-border connections.
The professor expanded on the readings with his slideshows, and also by discussing openly with students. Overall, he is quite approachable.
Work well with your group because all assignments are group projects, and the crib sheets for exams are also group-based (each group makes one crib sheet together).
