- Labs were fun + helped me connect concepts learned in class (my TA was super nice and sweet and made the labs more enjoyable for everyone) - Tests and exam were challenging, much harder than the question bank examples they provide on Avenue. Try finding past exams online and redo those questions. Question banks and Wiley plus questions are definitely NOT enough to do well in this course, but they're still great to use as practice to clear your basic concepts. Going to problem solving sessions was very helpful as Dr Chibba often created his own questions and went through them with us step by step - Many re-weight options similar to first year chem (i.e., you can drop your lowest test and have the weight shifted to the exam)
- Dr Chibba is great at teaching orgo! He helped break down the more difficult questions during the problem solving sessions and made certain concepts more easy to understand

Good course. Useful as it’s needed to take organic chem. Lots of work required to get a good mark and lots of studying required. The questions from tests and exam are a good mix of easy to hard. Lectures and modules were easy to follow and had practice questions. Mastering chem questions were annoying and sometimes difficult but not too hard. The labs were tedious but not hard and post lab quizzes are a bit challenging to do well on. The content quizzes required lots of studying and can be challenging. The content itself is almost identical to IB chem but with a few new concepts. There are a lot of units to cover compared to CHEM 1AA3.
Profs were good at going over content but some were slower than others. Dr Chen is a bit tough to understand
Study a lot for this course and you should do well. Also attend the Wize chemistry practice sessions.
Dr Chen and Chibba.

Overall I enjoyed this course much more than Chem 1A03 and found it to be easier. The concepts covered in this course include acids/bases, kinetics, organic chemistry, and chemical biology. I found that the content in this course was less all over the place compared to chem 1A03 where a lot more topics were covered/there was less overlap between the different topics (atomic theory/structure, periodic trends, chemical bonding, intro to acids and bases, entropy and gibbs free energy, electrochemistry, thermodynamics, as well as a self study unit of everything that was expected to be prior knowledge from high school). I also found the labs to be enjoyable especially the synthesis of aspirin lab in the organic chemistry unit.
The content in this course includes acids and bases (buffers, Henderson-Hasselbach, titrations, pH indicators), kinetics (reaction orders, rate laws, enzyme kinetics, Michaelis Menten), organic chemistry (organic nomenclature, organic structure/bonding, hybridization, and organic reactivity), and chemical biology (applications of chembio in pharmaceuticals/medicine, high throughput assays and controls, aromaticity, and combinatorial chemistry). Overall, a lot of this content was useful to gain insight into upper year chemistry courses and specializations (mostly those related to chemical biology and biochemistry). There were a lot of real world applications shown throughout the course that relate to the course content, especially in the organic chemistry and chemical biology units relating...read more
Dr. Chibba is a great prof! He explains concepts clearly and in a way that is easy to understand. You can tell he is passionate about what he teaches and he is always willing to answer questions. His lectures are always interesting and he makes you want to attend class!
Keep up on all of the practice content (weekly self assessments, practice quizzes). Do as much practice as you can, all the practice content posted on avenue (practice quizzes/tests/exams) have questions taken from a question bank and have been on previous tests/exams. By doing as many practice questions as you can you will become more familiar with all the different types of questions that you may get on a test. The practice materials definitely made it easier to do better on the quizzes/midterms/exam. Many of the questions on the actual midterms and exams were similar to those on the quizzes and practice materials.

In terms of theory Orgo 2 is easier than Orgo 1. Mechanisms in this course is way more simpler than in the previous Orgo class. The most challenging part of this course is remembering all the reactions in synthesis. Don’t leave it till the last moment to study the synthetic reactions else you will regret it.
Just what you would expect in an Orgo course arrow pushing and synthesis, just a lot of it.
We all love Dr Chibba, a very good Orgo prof always encouraging.
Orgo is all practise just like in Orgo 1 set aside 8-10 hours a week and keep at it, it’s a very useful way of thinking and I still love Orgo even in 3rd year.

Harder than Chem 1A03 despite having less topics. Newer concepts compared to IB chem. Labs weren’t that hard and neither were the post lab quizzes. Mastering chem was time consuming and sometimes hard. Tests and quizzes and exam were fair but hard.
Good lectures and tried to go over the hard questions from mastering
Study very hard. Do the practice questions. Go to the Wize chem sessions.

I enjoyed 2OB3 more than 2OA3 since the content was more interesting as you're actually doing chemistry this time. Although keeping track of all the reactions you've learned can be quite daunting, it's kind of neat having a synthetic toolbox of reactions that allow you to start with something, do some chemistry with it, and end up with a completely cooler thing. This course really demands constant practice, so make sure you're applying yourself consistently. Memorization will not help you.
Dr. Chibba's a gem. Really liked his teaching style and found his lecture videos easy to digest. He's also pretty entertaining. I personally found his tests on the tougher side, but the final was very fair. He won't throw anything at you that you cannot solve though, so if you feel utterly stuck, just take a deep breath, take a step back, and think about what you've learned and how that can help you navigate the question.
- Don't bother taking extensive notes for this course as it's not one where memorization will help you. I got a thicc notebook where I just wrote down the key reactions and mechanisms for each chapter, and the rest of it was filled with practice - Do all of the in-text and skillbuilder questions in the Klein textbook as you finish each lecture, the main thing you don't wanna slack on is doing consistent practice for this course - Once you're finished a chapter, do the suggested end-of-chapter questions. Really try to do these without instantly referring to the solutions when you get stuck - it might take you a while to figure certain questions out but it's far more valuable spending that time trying to apply your knowledge rather than just copying down the solution and thinking you got i...read more

More math-based than 1AA3, which means some people find it more difficult, but I found this course decently fair when I took it. The labs were also rather chill and an easy way to earn high marks.
Chibba is an icon, enough said.
Past midterms are the best way to study for the tests and keep up with the weekly quizzes.

A pretty decent class. Definitely, more of the chemistry you need to understand future biology concepts (if you take more bio courses, that is) is taught in this course than in 1A03. Midterms were both very fair, but the final exam was a bit rough. I'll also always remember writing my second midterm in MDCL on the day the school announced in-person classes were being cancelled due to the pandemic. Truly an unforgettable memory.
Really great! Does an excellent job explaining concepts and made all the in-person lectures pretty entertaining.
Practice and keep up with the work. Past midterms are your very best friend when studying for the tests in this class.

The easier of the two orgo courses. Things get a bit repetitive with some reactions where once you know one mechanism, all similar reactions work the same way. Labs were pretty boring online (but a very easy high mark), but are certainly mote interesting in person.
Absolutely love Dr. Chibba. Orgo remains terrible, but being taught by him made it slightly less awful.
Just like with orgo 1, consistent, timely practice is the key to success. Do not fall behind.
