Prof: Martin Walker / Winter 2021

One of the first big workloads for a class I have had. It's not unreasonable, but there is a wide range of things you need to know, and this will be the roadblock for certain people. Learn to study, now. Despite the difficulty, its a fun class for people interested in chemistry. If you are the person who gets fascinated by Ah-Ha! moments, there are plenty to find here. The one pitfall is leaving everything to the last minute, because if you try to learn everything before the final, you will cry from the stress.
Orgo 1 is about concepts, Orgo 2 is about reactions. 80% of quizes, exams, and the final are about reactions, reagents, catalysts, and products. Very useful to learn when getting into chemistry, if you want ti get a job as someone who synthesizes chemicals, here you go.
Dr. Walker is a good man. He explains things the best he can, has fun stories, and worked in the chemical industry (so he knows what he is talking about, and can answer advanced questions). He does pick favorites though. Be the favorite by showing sincete interest in chemistry. Generous while grading, usually.
This class forced me to learn how to stay motivated. Its hard to keep going through hard work, and this has a lot of hard work. You need to be able to push yourself to try harder. Make sacrifices. This is what it takes to become brilliant.
