Prof: Phillip Ligrani / Fall 2024
Apr 17, 2025
Can be a difficult class. Practice is a must.
Demonstrates a process for solving thermo problems and other engineering analysis problems. Biggest takeaway is learning the energy equation and slowly build upon it throughout the semester from simple work and heat transfer to entropy in unsteady systems.
Cheery, likes a good joke. Very intelligent and loves to chat, but also a very busy person and dedicated to his research and his success in teaching. Very generous in the grading brackets, but also very strict about academic honesty in exams and following the process to solving problems.
Learn the energy equation, what it is, why each piece is used and how it influences the system, and how to utilize it in the problem. Understand the actual simplicity of thermo as Ligrani describes it. Do not try to memorize. You are allowed a formula sheet anyhow. Exams are based on being able to solve problems quickly and accurately. If you try to memorize, you will fail. The exam throws concept checks. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
