Comments on the course

It was an interesting class and the TA I had was very helpful.

Course Content

Overview of American history from early colonial settlement to the Reconstruction period after the Civil War. Homework was just readings from Brightspace and the textbook. I took this course as a General Education requirement so it wasn't useful for my major but it was still a good class.

Comments on the professor

He explains the material well and provided a few extra credit opportunities. Most of the time its a lecture but on Fridays you meet with a smaller group to go over the readings and lectures for the week.

Advice

Practice more on writing essays. The first quiz was multiple choice but the ones after that were all writing.

Comments on the course

Unreasonably hard for a level 200 class. You are required to stand up to speak, and there are 7 required books you must purchase. The concept and content --American social history shown through court trials-- are interesting, but the course's workload and format kill its enjoyability.

Comments on the professor

Very knowledgeable, but not very kind. The professor would publicly joke at or humiliate students for things as simple as using a phone or giving a wrong answer. It was too stressful to feel like participating.
