Professor aside, the content of the course is very meh. Pretentious, convoluted modern art analysis and you are required to read 20-ish pages of snooty art critics every week or so. Some of the content was interesting if you enjoy analysis of aesthetics and social justice, but writing the essays was more fun than actually learning the content.
You know how people really **** on modern art because it doesn't make sense and is always super condescending? In this class you learn how to bullshit conceptual essays about art pieces that don't contribute anything to society. It's useful for art students, but if you don't HAVE to take this class I suggest you don't.
I have had this professor twice and both times he has been unprofessional, uppity and ignorant. He scolds students for small things like having a water bottle on your desk or suggesting a group chat be formed for your class. He's not an insufferable person, but he's by far the worst art professor I've met at UB so far. Totally out of touch.
In this class, you can absolutely get away with filler text in essays skimming the readings. There's a lot of content and it goes by fast, so take notes!
