This course is a required class for all incoming anthropology graduate students. It is a very good introduction to archaeology in the Old World through the Neolithic. I really enjoyed this class.
The course is mixed lectures and discussion. It is very reading heavy. As part of participation you are required to present summaries on required readings and engage in class discussion.
Dr. Chevral is great! He is so understanding about people needing extensions and is happy to provide help whenever needed. I really like how he runs his class and treats everyone as equals.
Do the readings! All of the essay exams are based on the required readings, so if you haven't read you will have a hard time.

This is a required class for all incoming graduate anthropology students. It’s very interesting overview of archaeology and how it relates to human evolution. Overall, it’s a really fun class that is interesting even if your focus isn’t archaeology.
Lots of paper readings and lectures combined with discussions. Most of class was discussions which were really engaging and fun.
Dr. Chevral is awesome - really understanding if you need extensions and very passionate. Really love how he runs discussions and how he lets us fully discuss and explore ideas and points.
The class is only as good as the people who engage in the discussion so make sure to participate. It’s really easy to do well in this class if you do the readings and talk in class.
