This class was truly life-changing, not just for me but also for many other KIN students I know. It was the kind of course where you weren’t simply memorizing information but actively learning to apply it to real-life scenarios. It encouraged us to see exercise as more than just movement—it's a prescription, a lifestyle, and a practice for improving health and wellness, both for ourselves and for the clients or patients we may work with in our future careers. This course has profoundly reshaped the way I view exercise medicine, physiology, and beyond, solidifying my passion for this field. I owe much of this transformation to Bill’s incredible teaching approach.
This course is assessed through one midterm, three lab reports, and a final exam. The three labs are spaced roughly a month apart and provide a unique, hands-on learning experience with high-quality equipment and one-of-a-kind studies. Choosing the right lab group is crucial, as you’ll only have one week to complete each lab report, and you may find that time is quite limited. Additionally, there are several research paper readings distributed evenly throughout the course. While none of the readings are individually overwhelming, they require consistent effort and are designed to deepen your understanding of exercise physiology topics. Bill does an excellent job of encouraging and guiding you to practice reading and analyzing these academic papers, a skill that becomes invaluable in unders...read more
Bill is an outstanding professor whose natural charisma, wit, and sense of humor make his lectures incredibly engaging and memorable. His sophisticated and academic word choices enhance the learning experience, and it’s truly an honor to be taught by one of the most influential and experienced leaders in exercise physiology. With decades of expertise in the field, his passion for the subject is both inspiring and evident in every lecture. Bill is also approachable and kind, though it’s important to keep in mind that he is very busy. While he may take some time to respond to emails and isn’t always readily available, he genuinely tries his best to support his students.
The lectures may feel a bit fast-paced at first, especially if your foundational knowledge of exercise physiology (from KIN 235) is lacking. I strongly recommend taking the time to review these concepts on your own, as Bill will not revisit them in detail. However, if you stay on top of the material and attend all his lectures, you’ll be well-prepared to succeed in the course.
