Prof: David Newman / Winter 2023

The course itself is not difficult, but you must have experience writing scientific papers, or knowing what they are like at least. I didn't have any concept of the papers, so that I didn't understand what I was studying until mid-semester, which made my early grades in this class a mess.
In short, you will learn how to create a scientific essay. There are 4 major parts you need to do: annotated biography, research proposal(includes literature review), draft paper, and final paper. You will need to choose a topic about Creativity for your final paper at the beginning, and work on the things with another teammate.
David Newman is very professional and patient, sometimes he even brings legos for us to play around which is really interesting, but honestly he is not good at helping his students. He had all of his course content on Canvas, and he would teach it in class as well; but the thing was, this class was in the first semester of my first year, and I had no idea how to use Canvas at the time, and then he blamed me for it. What's more, he always ignores that he students in this class are mostly first year engineering/science students who have no experience or time for writing papers And his lectures can make people sleepy, Dr AMSR basically
The flow of this course may vary depending on the professor. For Dr Newman, there are only two most important things: 1. Watch his tutorial videos on Canvas (therefore I don't recommend to take this course on term 1 year 1) 2. Find a good teammate!!!!!!! My teammate at the time was the last one left and this guy was a nightmare and made the course 10 times more difficult for me! I don’t want to say too much, but there is one story I want to share: I finished writing the draft paper and final paper by myself, and then he actually deleted everything I wrote and replaced it with things written by ChatGPT!!!!!!!! Some other tips: Choose a very specific small topic; Do NOT use ChatGPT!
