Lynn is the best. No cap. She genuinely cares about her students and the topics she teaches. The TAs were also great and very helpful! Honestly one of my favourite classes so far because Lynn made it so enjoyable!!

Interesting but easy class if you put in the work. Lynn is a gem and you just need to familiarize yourself with written questions.

Advice

Go over slides and clickers. DO some extra written problems to solidify ideas.

Comments on the course

My comment can be summarized in one word: WOW! I cannot even begin to put into words how fantastic of a job she has done. Lynn has all the essential qualities of a teacher: passionate, knowledgable, and a fantastic pedagogue. Lynn's passion for both teaching and the subject matter clearly comes out during lectures. She often goes above and beyond to research and discover more about the topic. I came into this class as someone with very little passion for biology in general and come out as a student with a newfound appreciation of nature. She puts in the effort to make every single class enjoyable and she has succeeded - her class is a treat to go to. Lynn is also constantly pushing herself to discover new material to teach and demonstrates a clear understanding of the topic. Whenever...read more

Comments on the course

Literally cannot say enough good things about Lynn Norman. I've never come across a prof with more compassion and care for their students, she made class super interesting and was always really receptive to student feedback! My motivation for coming to class was mostly just because she was so great at what she did. The course was organized extremely well and is very fairly marked I thought.

Comments on the course

In overall, this is a great course. The Genetic unit is hard but the evolution and Ecology units are easy. The workload is reasonable as long as you don't cram for studying.

Course Content

the course content is not very difficult to understand as long as you spend time studying. The genetic unit might look a little bit confusing if this is your first time studying genetics, but evolution and ecology units are easy.

Comments on the professor

Lynn is a fantastic professor!! One of the best professors I've met at ubc. She is always supportive, and her class is pretty fun. Sometimes the course content is boring, but Lynn would always tell some jokes to make it more interesting. Her class is strongly recommended!!

Advice

Spend time studying the genetics unit before midterm 1. Don't cram for exams and assignments. Don't be frustrated if you didn't do well in the first midterm. The second midterm and the final will be much better.
